The Abia State government has officially lifted the ban previously imposed on the operations of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, marking a significant development for transport operations in the region.

Abia State Commissioner for Transport, Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu, made this announcement on Tuesday following a productive meeting with NURTW delegations from both state and national levels. According to the commissioner, the decision reflects the state government's dedication to fairness and its vision for an improved transport environment.

Ukaegbu emphasized that Governor Alex Otti remains steadfast in his commitment to establishing a convenient and efficient transportation system throughout Abia State.

The National President of NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, expressed gratitude to the commissioner for lifting the ban. Represented at the meeting by Deputy National Chairman Aliyu Isaa Ore, Akinsanya pledged that the union would conduct its activities in alignment with Governor Otti's policies and objectives.

Chukwuma Azode, the newly elected chairman of NURTW in Abia, also addressed the gathering, promising to steer the union's affairs in accordance with the state government's goals. He assured stakeholders that the previous era of lawlessness would not be permitted to return under his leadership.

"This election has provided a fresh opportunity to improve transportation in Abia," Azode stated, signaling a new chapter for the union's operations in the state.

The lifting of this ban is expected to bring stability to the transport sector and potentially improve services for commuters across the state, as the union reintegrates into the formal transport framework under new leadership and guidelines.
