The Kwara State government has begun issuing notices to property owners who have unlawfully converted residential buildings for commercial purposes in Ilorin, the state capital.

AbdulAkeem Abdulsalam, General Manager of the Town Planning Authority in the Kwara State Geographic Information Service, confirmed this development during an interview with journalists on Monday in Ilorin.

Abdulsalam explained that the initiative aligns with the nationwide urban renewal project being implemented by the Federal Government across various states in Nigeria.

"Enforcement will commence very soon after the affected residents along some major roads in the state capital have been served with the warning notices. They should expect that notice," he stated.

When asked about the specific timeline for enforcement actions, Abdulsalam indicated that it could happen "anytime" following the issuance of notices.

The crackdown aims to restore proper urban planning and zoning regulations in the capital city, addressing concerns about unregulated commercial activities in residential areas that often lead to infrastructure strain, parking problems, and altered neighborhood characteristics.

Property owners affected by this directive are advised to comply with the notices to avoid potential penalties or enforcement actions by the state authorities.

This development comes as part of broader efforts by the Kwara State government to enhance urban planning and ensure compliance with zoning regulations across the state.
