The remains of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu Ode, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, will be laid to rest on Monday at his Ogbagba Court, Igbeba residence, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

According to a statement released by the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the burial ceremony is scheduled to take place at 4:00 p.m.

BenriNews reports that the revered monarch joined his ancestors on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 91. Until his demise, Oba Adetona served as the Awujale of the Ijebu Kingdom, a prominent traditional state in Nigeria with significant historical and cultural importance.

The late Oba Adetona was widely respected across Nigeria for his leadership and contributions to the development of Ijebuland during his long reign. The Emir of Kano had previously described the Awujale as a father figure whose leadership style should be emulated.

In the official statement, Talabi urged residents of Ogun State to remember the family of the revered monarch in their prayers during this period of mourning.

The passing of the Awujale comes at a time when the Ogun State government has been intensifying work on the reconstruction of roads in Ijebu-Ode, a development that had earned Governor Dapo Abiodun commendation from residents.

As the Ijebu community prepares to bid farewell to their long-serving traditional ruler, tributes have continued to pour in from various parts of the country, highlighting the monarch's influence and the respect he commanded during his lifetime.
