The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has confirmed that two people have died and nine others sustained severe injuries in a tragic road accident along the Owode-Ijako section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

According to TRACE officials, the accident, which occurred on Monday night, involved three vehicles: a red DAF truck with registration number JJJ-144XD, a white Mazda bus registered as EPE-394XP, and a yellow tricycle with registration number DGB-599VC.

The traffic report revealed that a total of 14 people were involved in the incident, comprising 11 males and three females. Among them, seven males and two females sustained injuries, while two males were confirmed dead at the scene.

An eyewitness account detailed the sequence of events leading to the accident. The DAF truck had been parked on a slope at the entrance of a warehouse opposite Tipper Garage. The driver reportedly left the engine running with the handbrake engaged while he took his waybill to security personnel at the warehouse gate.

"The truck eventually disengaged from the handbrake and reversed onto the expressway, causing the accident," stated the TRACE report.

All injured victims have been transported to Ifo General Hospital for medical treatment, while authorities continue to investigate the incident.

This accident adds to the growing concerns about road safety along the busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, which has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent months. Road safety experts continue to advocate for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly regarding commercial vehicles and proper parking procedures.
