Kun Khalifat FC head coach Obinna Uzor has attributed his team's 3-0 defeat to Warri Wolves in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs to conceding an early goal that disrupted their game plan.
The match, played in Asaba on Monday, was Kun Khalifat's second fixture in the ongoing NNL Super 8 playoffs that will determine promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Speaking in a post-match interview, Uzor explained how the early setback affected his team's performance throughout the encounter.
"That early goal completely demoralised us," Uzor stated. "It disrupted our rhythm and gave them confidence. From that point, it was tough to bounce back."
The defeat has put Kun Khalifat in a precarious position, as they now face a must-win situation in their next match against Osun United to keep their NPFL promotion hopes alive.
This result comes as a significant setback for Kun Khalifat, who had started the Super 8 playoffs on a positive note with a victory in their opening match. The team will need to quickly regroup and address the defensive vulnerabilities that were exposed by Warri Wolves.
The NNL Super 8 playoffs in Asaba have been highly competitive, with other matches seeing Osun United and Barau FC also battling for the coveted promotion spots to the NPFL.
Football analysts following the tournament suggest that Kun Khalifat will need to show greater resilience and tactical discipline in their crucial upcoming fixture if they hope to secure promotion to Nigeria's top flight.
