Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has launched a new security initiative called the Quick Response Squad (QRS) to strengthen rapid response capabilities against security threats across the state.
The official inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, who represented Governor Alia at the event.
According to details released by the state government, the QRS is a joint security operation that brings together personnel from multiple security formations including the Civilian Protection Guard (CPG), Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), local hunters, and the Joint Task Force (JTF).
The primary objective of the squad is to provide swift and effective responses to security emergencies, with particular focus on vulnerable communities across Benue State that have experienced various security challenges in recent times.
This initiative comes amid growing concerns about insecurity in parts of the state, where communities have faced threats from armed groups. The QRS is expected to enhance coordination between different security stakeholders and improve response times to emergency situations.
The formation of the Quick Response Squad represents one of several measures being implemented by the Alia administration to address security challenges in Benue State, which has experienced various forms of insecurity including farmer-herder conflicts and other criminal activities in recent years.
Further details about the operational structure, deployment strategy, and resource allocation for the new security initiative are expected to be released by the state government in the coming days.
