Several passengers sustained injuries following a serious collision between a Toyota Camry and a commercial bus (Danfo) on Lagos' 3rd Mainland Bridge on Monday. The accident occurred near Adekunle Junction in the Lagos Island-bound lane.
According to eyewitnesses, the commercial bus somersaulted multiple times after impact, resulting in numerous injuries among passengers. The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) confirmed that despite the severity of the crash, no fatalities were recorded.
RRS operatives, including motorcycle and patrol teams, quickly arrived at the scene to provide first aid and assistance to the injured victims. Officers from the Adekunle Police Division also responded promptly, working alongside emergency personnel to ensure victims were safely evacuated.
"A road traffic accident involving a Toyota Camry and a commercial bus (Danfo) occurred before Adekunle Junction, inward Lagos Island, leaving several passengers injured. The bus reportedly somersaulted multiple times after the collision," the RRS statement detailed.
The statement further noted: "RRS bikers and patrol vehicles were deployed to administer first aid, while personnel from the Adekunle Police Division are also on the ground, supporting the rescue operation. Emergency response teams have been mobilized. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in the incident."
Following the incident, authorities removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway, allowing normal traffic flow to resume on the vital bridge that connects Lagos Island to the mainland.
This accident comes as the 3rd Mainland Bridge, one of Lagos' most crucial transportation arteries, continues to experience heavy daily traffic. The bridge has previously been the site of various renovation projects aimed at improving safety and infrastructure.
