Dangote Group, owners of Dangote Cement, has officially denied reports claiming that one of its trucks was involved in a fatal accident that claimed several lives along the Wannune-Gboko Road in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.

The company's spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, made this clarification during an interview with BenriNews on Monday, following widespread reports that a truck carrying Dangote cement had collided with a Toyota Sienna vehicle on Sunday evening, resulting in multiple fatalities.

Chiejina emphasized that not all trucks transporting Dangote products belong to the company. "The fact that a truck carried Dangote cement does not mean that it belongs to Dangote. It is for our distributors. We have searched our inventory, and there are no such trucks," he stated.

As of the time of this report, the company had yet to release an official statement debunking the claim. The incident adds to a series of accidents across the country involving trucks carrying Dangote cement, though the company maintains this particular vehicle was not part of their fleet.

The accident, which occurred on the busy Wannune-Gboko Road, has raised concerns about road safety and the proper identification of commercial vehicles operating on Nigerian highways. Local authorities have not yet released official casualty figures or details about the cause of the crash.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety in Benue State and across Nigeria, where commercial vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trucks, are frequently involved in serious accidents.
