Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has raised an alarm over online impersonation cases following Nigeria's impressive 3-0 victory against Tunisia in their opening match at the 2025 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The England-born defender, who helped the nine-time African champions maintain a clean sheet against the North African side, expressed concern about fraudulent accounts using her identity to deceive fans.

"There have been a lot of cases where people impersonate me, taking my name and saying things," Plumptre stated after the match. "There's a Facebook account that's being taken down, but it is promising people money and things like that and that's just not true."

The defender clarified that while she does have a personal Facebook account, she hasn't used it in years, meaning any active Facebook profile claiming to be her is fraudulent.

This warning comes at a time when the Super Falcons have made a strong start to their WAFCON 2025 campaign, taking the lead in Group B after their convincing win over Tunisia. The victory positions Nigeria favorably as they continue their quest for a record-extending tenth continental title.

The match also saw forward Esther Okoronkwo named Woman of the Match for her outstanding performance, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie expressed delight with the team's solid defensive display.

Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum praised the team's performance, noting their disciplined approach against a tough Tunisian side. The Nigerian team remains at the top of Group B, especially after Algeria secured a win against Botswana in the other group fixture.

Fans are advised to be vigilant about social media scams and to verify the authenticity of accounts claiming to be associated with national team players.
