The Lagos State Government has sealed two popular beach resorts and 180 other buildings in the Okun-Ajah area of Eti-Osa Local Government over illegal encroachment on government-owned land.

The enforcement operation, which took place early Monday, targeted Timeless Beach and Iceland Beach resorts alongside numerous residential and commercial structures in the waterfront area.

Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Alebiosu, who led the operation, expressed disappointment at the property owners' disregard for multiple government notices and summons.

"This level of disregard for laid-down rules and property ownership cannot be tolerated. The State Government has made efforts to engage the affected parties, but their refusal to comply has left us with no choice," Alebiosu stated.

Compliance and Regularization Efforts

According to a statement signed by Akodu Morenikeji, the ministry's Director of Public Affairs, the government had previously accommodated and issued E-Survey documents to over 40 former offenders who complied with legal requirements after being served notices.

The sealed properties reportedly ignored multiple warnings and failed to engage with authorities regarding their illegal occupation of state land in the prime waterfront location.

This enforcement action is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to reclaim encroached public lands and ensure proper development of waterfront areas in accordance with the state's urban planning regulations.

The Okun-Ajah area, located along Lagos' expanding coastal corridor, has seen rapid development in recent years, with numerous beach resorts and residential properties springing up, some allegedly without proper documentation or approval.
