A 27-year-old man, Rotji Lazarus, from the Gwalameji area of Bauchi, has died after being knocked down by a hit-and-run driver just 24 hours before he was scheduled to travel abroad for a new job opportunity.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragic incident occurred at night along the Bauchi–Dass Road in Yelwa, near the POWA shops by the Police Barrack. The vehicle, which was reportedly operating without headlights, struck Lazarus and immediately fled the scene, heading towards the Rafin Zurfi axis of the Tafawa-Balewa Road.

Educational Background and Career

Lazarus was a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, and also held a Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism and Leisure Management from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State. At the time of the accident, he was reportedly selling fruit juice close to the accident spot in Yelwa, while preparing for his imminent relocation abroad.

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Titus Saul Ketkukah, has extended condolences to his Special Adviser, Lazarus Buba, who is the father of the deceased. In his message, the commissioner described the late Rotji Lazarus as a humble and respectful young man known for his gentle nature and obedience to his parents and community.

This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the devastating impact of hit-and-run accidents on families and communities. Authorities have yet to provide information regarding any investigation into identifying the driver responsible for this tragedy.
