The University of Jos (UniJos) has announced its readiness to host the 2025 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) scheduled for November this year. The announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, during a courtesy visit by the official consultant to the 2025 NUGA.
Prof. Ishaya assured that the university, regarded as one of the best in West Africa, would implement all necessary measures to ensure the success of the games. The institution is preparing to welcome participants from universities across Nigeria.
First-of-its-kind Sports Village
In a groundbreaking development, the Vice Chancellor revealed plans for Nigeria's first-ever sports village on the university campus. "We are redefining the game and creating the first of its kind sports village that would metamorphose into a sports institute. We want to take sport to the next level," Prof. Ishaya stated.
This innovative facility is expected to significantly enhance the sporting infrastructure available to Nigerian university athletes and potentially serve as a model for other institutions across the country.
Collaborative Efforts
The courtesy visit included Hon. Shehu Ataboh, Director General and official consultant to the 2025 NUGA, along with his team. They were accompanied by Mr. Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, highlighting the collaborative approach being taken to organize the games.
Prof. Ishaya expressed appreciation to the Plateau State government and the consultant for their involvement in sports development at the university level. Hon. Ataboh, in turn, commended UniJos for the preparations already in place for the successful hosting of the games.
The 2025 NUGA Games will bring together student-athletes from universities across Nigeria to compete in various sporting disciplines, showcasing talent and promoting inter-university relationships through sports.
