A Department of State Services (DSS) operative has revealed shocking details about members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) being caught with human heads during a raid on their camp. The operative testified that some ESN members were discovered eating human flesh, which they claimed was for "spiritual fortification."

The witness, identified as PW5-EEE, made these disturbing revelations during cross-examination at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday. "We saw some ESN members, about seven, with human heads and some eating human flesh, which they said was for spiritual fortification," the witness recounted.

According to the DSS operative, operations of ESN, the militia arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have resulted in the deaths of over 170 security personnel in the South-East region.

Prosecution Closes Case Against Nnamdi Kanu

The testimony came as the prosecution closed its case in the ongoing terrorism trial of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Justice James Omotosho directed the defence to file a written address on its no-case submission and gave the Federal Government 14 days to respond with its own written address.

The trial has been adjourned until July 18, 2025, for further proceedings.

This development marks a significant moment in the high-profile case that has drawn considerable attention across Nigeria, particularly in the South-Eastern region where IPOB has maintained a strong presence.

The allegations against ESN members add a disturbing dimension to the security challenges in the region, where tensions between separatist groups and security forces have remained high in recent years.
