Nigeria's Flying Eagles will participate in the inaugural WAFU B U-20 Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Ghana from July 10 to July 24, 2025, BenriNews reports.

The tournament, which will be hosted in Ghana's capital city of Accra, was originally planned for June 15-30 in Prampram but was postponed to ensure optimal conditions for the competition.

World Cup Preparation

For the Flying Eagles, this regional tournament represents a crucial preparation opportunity ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year. Coach Aliyu Zubairu's squad will be looking to build on their recent success at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, where they secured a third-place finish in March.

The competition will feature several West African nations alongside Nigeria, including Cote d'Ivoire, Niger, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Benin. This gathering of regional talent will provide valuable competitive experience for the young Nigerian squad.

Recent Flying Eagles Performance

The Flying Eagles have been active on the international stage recently. Following their bronze medal performance at the U-20 AFCON, they have been drawn into Group F for the upcoming U-20 World Cup, where they will face Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and Norway.

Coach Zubairu has previously expressed his intention to strengthen the squad ahead of the World Cup, promising "more quality additions" as they prepare for the global tournament.

The WAFU B U-20 Cup will serve as an important testing ground for tactical adjustments and player evaluations before the team heads to Chile for the World Cup challenge.
