Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has formally notified the United Nations Security Council that Israel's recent military strikes against Iran were conducted to "neutralize the existential and imminent threat from Iran's nuclear weapon."
In a letter shared on social media platform X, Sa'ar justified the operation as a necessary response to what he described as Iran's "strategic plan to eliminate Israel." According to the communication, the Israeli strikes specifically targeted "military facilities and critical components of Iran's nuclear weapons program."
Iran's 'Ring of Fire' Strategy
Sa'ar accused Tehran of orchestrating a coordinated multi-front campaign against Israel through its proxy forces. "This is all part of the Iranian war plan to encircle Israel with a 'ring of fire,' in pursuit of Israel's annihilation," he stated in the letter, specifically mentioning Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi rebels in Yemen as Iranian proxies.
The escalation comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Israel and Iran engaging in direct military confrontation after years of shadow warfare conducted through proxies and covert operations.
Broader Regional Context
This development follows reports that Iran recently arrested five individuals alleged to be Mossad agents involved in an online campaign to "tarnish" the nation's image. Additionally, Israel's military intelligence chief has indicated that operations in Iran are set to expand.
Iran has also confirmed a cyberattack that disrupted Bank Sepah services, which an Israel-linked hacker group claimed responsibility for, suggesting that the conflict is extending into the cyber domain as well.
The international community watches closely as this direct confrontation between two regional powers threatens to further destabilize an already volatile Middle East.
