High Chief Tijani Abioye, a prominent kingmaker in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has passed away at the age of 90 following age-related health complications.

Abioye, who held the revered traditional title of Bara of Ogbomosoland, was ranked third among the six recognised kingmakers in the ancient town. According to family sources, the high chief died on Sunday.

Decades of Traditional Leadership

The late High Chief was installed as Bara in the early 1980s by the immediate past Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, serving in this capacity for over four decades.

A source close to the deceased told BenriNews that Abioye was not only a senior kingmaker but also held a prominent community role. "He died yesterday. He was the number three. There are six kingmakers in Ogbomoso," the source confirmed. "He was also the head of farmers in the town."

His death marks the end of an era in Ogbomoso's traditional leadership, leaving a significant vacancy in the town's council of kingmakers, which plays a crucial role in the selection and installation of new monarchs in the community.

As a respected elder and community leader, High Chief Abioye's passing represents a significant loss to the cultural heritage and traditional governance structure of Ogbomosoland.
