Governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Babagana Zulum of Borno states have publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, citing his administration's significant accomplishments despite challenging circumstances.
The endorsement came during the All Progressives Congress (APC) North East Consultative Forum meeting held in Gombe, where both governors highlighted Tinubu's leadership qualities and policy initiatives as justification for his continuation in office beyond 2027.
Bold Reforms Require More Time
Governor Buni emphasized that President Tinubu has demonstrated exceptional leadership in navigating Nigeria through complex local and global challenges while maintaining the nation's forward momentum.
"In the last two years, President Tinubu's administration introduced bold reforms to improve citizens' lives," Buni stated. He acknowledged that while these reforms have brought temporary hardships, they also offer renewed hope for a brighter future.
The Yobe governor further explained that Tinubu's comprehensive policies require strategic planning and sufficient implementation time. "These policies require careful strategic planning and sufficient time, and a single term may not be adequate for their full implementation. To deliver lasting results, more than one term may be needed for effective and efficient execution of these initiatives," he added.
Security Improvements in the North East
Both governors highlighted security improvements in the North East region as a key achievement of the Tinubu administration. According to Buni, new security measures introduced by Tinubu's government are enabling residents to return to their farms, enhancing food sufficiency and reinforcing food security in the region.
Governor Zulum corroborated this assessment, noting that Tinubu's government is successfully restoring peace in the region, with tangible results becoming increasingly visible. He joined Buni in calling for Tinubu's return in 2027 to maintain progress across various sectors nationwide.
Buni urged residents of the North East to maintain their support for the federal government and security agencies in the pursuit of lasting peace. He also called on the APC North East Forum to formally endorse Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election to ensure the completion of the administration's agenda.
The endorsement comes as the APC begins early preparations for the 2027 general elections, with party leaders in various regions consolidating support for the incumbent president.
