Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared that his mission to combat cultism in the state is divinely inspired, emphasizing that his appointment to lead this fight comes from a higher calling rather than physical strength.

The Governor made this declaration on Sunday during a special thanksgiving mass held in honor of Blessing Agbebaku's second anniversary as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, which coincided with Father's Day celebrations.

"I want to tell you people that God is here. That's why if it's somebody with muscles, with strength to fight cultism, I don't think I would have been the one. But God has sent me to do that," Governor Okpebholo stated during the event.

Leadership and Fatherhood

Reflecting on the significance of Father's Day, the governor drew parallels between the qualities required for effective fatherhood and those needed for leadership. He emphasized that both roles demand courage and empathy.

"It takes courage and empathy to be a father. I urge fathers to continue to love and guide their children, as they are blessings from God," he remarked.

Legislative Support for Executive Initiatives

Speaker Agbebaku, whose anniversary was being celebrated, expressed gratitude to all guests, particularly acknowledging Governor Okpebholo for attending despite his numerous official obligations.

The Speaker pledged the legislature's commitment to maintaining a productive and collaborative relationship with the executive arm of government to advance the state's development.

"Your Excellency, as a house, we want to work with you. We want to form synergy with you to take Edo to the next level. We are very ready to work with you to make sure our people have the best in Nigeria," Agbebaku affirmed.

The Governor's focus on eradicating cultism comes at a critical time for Edo State, which has seen various incidents related to cult activities in recent months, including several arrests by police forces.
