The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has announced the opening of weekend service windows to accommodate taxpayers as the June 30 deadline for Companies Income Tax (CIT) filing approaches.
From Saturday, June 14, to Sunday, June 29, 2025, FIRS offices nationwide will remain open on weekends to assist businesses with their tax filing requirements and address outstanding tax matters.
Extended Services to Ease Compliance Pressure
This initiative comes as part of broader efforts by the FIRS, under the leadership of Executive Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, to make tax compliance more accessible and less stressful for Nigerian businesses.
The weekend service window is strategically timed to provide additional support as the deadline approaches, giving companies extra opportunities to fulfill their tax obligations without disrupting their regular business hours.
Consequences of Missing the Deadline
Tax experts have emphasized the importance of meeting the June 30 deadline. Companies that fail to file their returns on time may face significant consequences, including:
- Interest charges on outstanding tax amounts
- Financial penalties for late filing
- Limited opportunities for obtaining waivers
Business owners and corporate finance officers are encouraged to take advantage of this extended service period to ensure compliance and avoid unnecessary financial burdens.
The FIRS has been implementing various taxpayer-friendly initiatives in recent months as part of its commitment to improving the ease of doing business in Nigeria while ensuring optimal tax revenue collection.
