Bashir Ahmad, former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has strongly condemned the recent mass killings in Benue State, describing the perpetrators as "terrorists" and "enemies of us all."

Ahmad made the statement on Sunday via his official X handle, responding to reports of over 200 people killed in separate attacks on Yelewata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of the state.

"What has been happening in Benue is condemnable and entirely unacceptable. Those responsible for these atrocities are terrorists and enemies of us all. Nigeria will win," he wrote.

Growing Concerns Over Benue Security Situation

The security situation in Benue has drawn widespread criticism from various quarters. The state assembly has reportedly called out Governor Alia for being silent on the matter, while the Nigerian Army has vowed to go after the attackers.

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has described the killings as a "failure of leadership" and called for the declaration of a national emergency. Similarly, activist Aisha Yesufu suggested that President Tinubu's impeachment should be a topic of discussion in light of the ongoing violence.

The attacks have created panic among parents who besieged schools demanding the release of their children, while a protest in Benue turned chaotic, resulting in a driver being burnt alive and subsequent arrests by police.

Former presidential spokesperson Shehu has also weighed in, describing the Benue crisis as a threat to the entire nation.

As tensions continue to rise, security agencies have pledged to restore order and bring the perpetrators to justice.
