Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi has expressed disappointment over the slow pace of work on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway following an inspection conducted over the weekend.

During his visit to the construction site, Umahi made his dissatisfaction clear, urging contractors to accelerate their efforts and ensure timely completion of the project which serves as a critical transportation link in the Southeast region.

"I am not encouraged by what I've seen on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway. The contractors must rise to their responsibilities and ensure this project is completed within the stipulated timeframe," the minister stated.

Inspection Tour of South-South and Southeast Projects

The Enugu-Onitsha expressway inspection was part of a broader tour of ongoing federal road projects across the South-South and Southeast regions aimed at ensuring speedy delivery of critical infrastructure.

In Delta State, Umahi also expressed dissatisfaction with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) regarding their work on the Warri-Benin-Asaba Road, particularly highlighting concerns about the slow progress on the Efurun-Sapele section.

"Timely completion is crucial, and I expect all contractors to work diligently towards achieving this goal," he emphasized during the inspection.

Federal-State Collaboration

The minister commended the collaboration between the Delta State government and the Federal Government on ongoing projects in the state. He specifically acknowledged the state government's initiative in handling compensation payments to affected individuals, which has helped expedite project implementation.

"The Delta State Government's proactive approach in taking over the payment of compensation to affected individuals has been instrumental in fast-tracking these projects. I am confident that this collaboration will yield positive results, and I assure the state government that the Federal Ministry of Works will honor its commitments," Umahi stated.

The former Governor of Ebonyi State also inspected the ongoing construction of the Eke-Obinagu flyover in Enugu State, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, in contrast to his assessment of other projects.
