Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti North Senatorial District have unanimously resolved to commit themselves to the survival and success of the party in the upcoming 2026 governorship election in the state.

The resolution was made during a stakeholders meeting held on Wednesday at Ido Ekiti, in Ido Osi Local Government Area, where party leaders gathered to discuss strategies for strengthening the party's position ahead of the elections.

Renewed Commitment to Party Success

Mr. Funso Ayeni, former PDP senatorial candidate in the 2023 National Assembly election and convener of the meeting, emphasized the importance of unity within the party ranks.

"I convened this meeting to talk to party leaders in the senatorial district and inform them about ongoing developments in the party. It's also to motivate them to return to their communities and remain strong as we prepare for upcoming elections," Ayeni stated.

He added, "PDP is my party, the party is strong, and I believe at every point in time there should be unity of purpose. The only thing we can give back to this party is to make sure that it doesn't die."

Focus on Electoral Preparation

With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) having released the election timetable for 2026, Ayeni stressed the urgency of mobilization efforts, particularly in Ekiti North Senatorial District, which he described as a crucial voting bloc.

"This is where the majority of the votes will come from in the next election. Now is the time to start mobilizing and galvanizing our people towards making their votes count," he emphasized.

Addressing Party Challenges

When questioned about the internal challenges facing the party at both national and state levels, Ayeni acknowledged these issues but expressed confidence in their resolution.

"Is there any party that has no internal challenges? There is none. The National Working Committee is doing what is required for us to get back on track. I believe soon, the party will overcome these internal challenges. There are a series of meetings ongoing, and I'm confident that all issues will be resolved," he said.

Confidence in Defeating APC

Ayeni expressed strong optimism about the PDP's chances of dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 governorship election, citing public dissatisfaction with the current administration.

"Nobody is happy about the ruling party at the moment. The entire nation is in disarray. Are the roads in Ekiti so beautiful now that everybody is happy? Is the economic prosperity in Ekiti something to write home about?" he questioned.

"People are not protesting, but they want to protest with their votes. People want leadership that can actually manage the challenges we face. How has the government been able to industrialize the state? How has the government been able to empower the youths? These issues will manifest in people's votes come June 20, 2026," Ayeni predicted.

He concluded by stating that the APC should be more worried about the upcoming election due to what he described as their poor performance in governance.
