Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, has declared that the creation of Anioma State is effectively a "done deal" with significant progress already made in the legislative process.
Speaking to All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders at his country home in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha Local Government Area on Saturday, Nwoko revealed that 75 senators have already pledged their support for the state's creation.
"We are on course. The technical committee will be inaugurated in Asaba, to help me work towards actualising the creation of Anioma state," Nwoko stated. "If you were at Agbor during APC stakeholders gathering, you heard when the National Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Umar Ganduje said the creation of Anioma State is a done deal."
Legislative Progress
According to the senator, the bill for Anioma State creation has already cleared the committee stage and is now advancing to a public hearing scheduled to take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
"Thereafter, we will come back to the Senate for third reading of the bill for the creation of Anioma State," he explained, outlining the remaining steps in the legislative process.
Stakeholder Support
The push for Anioma State has garnered significant support from various political figures in the region. APC chieftain Chief Emma Ejiofor called for unity among stakeholders, issuing a strong warning that any member of the Delta State House of Assembly from the senatorial district who fails to support the cause could face recall by constituents.
Former House of Representatives member Hon. Nicholas Ossai emphasized the potential benefits of the proposed state. "We must support Senator Ned Nwoko to achieve this feat because when we have our state, we will have more local government areas created, and many other benefits in the new state. Anioma State should be supported by everybody," Ossai stated.
Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, used the occasion to call for party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections. "We are not having a party to divide us. We are having a party to unify and unite everybody. We must unite the party, particularly in Delta North," Ochei remarked.
The creation of Anioma State would represent a significant political restructuring in Delta State, potentially altering the political landscape of the region if successfully implemented.
