Arsenal are reportedly exploring a 'Plan C' option in their summer striker hunt after negotiations for primary targets Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres have hit significant roadblocks.
The North London club had hoped to secure a new forward before their pre-season tour to Singapore and Hong Kong scheduled for mid-July, but pricing disagreements have complicated matters.
Sesko Release Clause Complications
RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, 22, was initially considered the frontrunner to lead Arsenal's attack next season. Earlier reports suggested a fee of approximately £60 million might secure the Slovenian international's services.
However, the Bundesliga club has now taken a firmer stance, demanding a figure closer to the £70 million release clause in Sesko's contract, forcing Arsenal to reconsider their approach.
Gyokeres Valuation Dispute
A similar situation has developed with Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres. Initial speculation suggested the Swedish striker might be available for around £59 million, significantly below his £85 million buyout clause.
This hope was dashed when Sporting president Frederico Varandas publicly denied any "gentleman's agreement" allowing Gyokeres to leave for a reduced fee. The Portuguese champions are now demanding approximately £67 million for the 27-year-old.
Arsenal appear hesitant to meet this valuation, with concerns about Gyokeres' limited resale value given his age reportedly factoring into their decision-making process.
With both primary targets proving more expensive than anticipated, Arsenal's recruitment team is now believed to be considering alternative options to strengthen their attacking lineup for the upcoming season.
The club's search for a prolific striker continues as manager Mikel Arteta looks to build on their recent Premier League title challenges and mount a more sustained push for silverware in the 2025/26 campaign.
