A devastating thunderstorm struck Obi town in Nasarawa State on Monday, killing two residents and leaving two others critically injured after they were hit by lightning during a heavy downpour.

The victims, identified as Aminu Amegwa Ayitogo and Micah Christopher, lost their lives instantly when lightning struck them while they were taking shelter under a motorcycle workshop shade located opposite the Obi Local Government Secretariat.

According to eyewitness accounts, the thunderbolt hit the group unexpectedly as they sought protection from the heavy rainfall, resulting in immediate fatalities.

The two injured survivors, Bulus Ogu Iwala and Abraham Francis Tarkaa, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, the state capital. Medical personnel are working diligently to stabilize their condition.

In response to this tragic incident, local authorities have issued urgent safety advisories to residents, urging them to exercise extreme caution during severe weather conditions. The public has been advised to avoid open spaces, trees, and metal structures during thunderstorms to prevent similar tragedies.
