US President Donald Trump has expressed openness to reconciling with tech billionaire Elon Musk following their recent public dispute on social media, stating that his priority remains focused on national improvement rather than personal grievances.
"I guess I could," Trump told "Pod Force One" with The New York Post's Miranda Devine when asked if he could forgive his estranged political associate, despite being "not a happy camper" about the situation.
The President emphasized his priorities, adding: "We have to straighten out the country. And my sole function now is getting this country back to a level higher than it's ever been."
Musk Expresses Regret
Hours before Trump's interview was released, Musk acknowledged on his X platform that some of his remarks about the president had crossed a line.
"They went too far," Musk admitted in his post, suggesting a potential path toward reconciliation between the two high-profile figures.
Origins of the Dispute
The clash erupted shortly after Musk departed from his White House advisory role, where he had led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a body tasked with reducing waste and fraud in federal spending.
According to BenriNews reports, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO harshly criticized Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill—a cornerstone of the president's domestic agenda—describing it as "pork-filled" and an "abomination."
Musk also accused Trump of ingratitude, claimed credit for Trump's 2024 election victory, and made allegations regarding the president's connection to Jeffrey Epstein files, suggesting the Department of Justice was delaying their full release.
In response, Trump reportedly threatened to cut lucrative federal contracts held by Musk's businesses, escalating the conflict between the two powerful figures.
The interview suggests a potential cooling of tensions between the president and the influential tech entrepreneur, though whether this will lead to renewed cooperation remains to be seen.
