Arsenal have officially announced that Brazilian forward Marquinhos has completed a permanent transfer to Cruzeiro, ending his two-year association with the North London club.
The 22-year-old joined Arsenal from São Paulo in June 2022 but made only six appearances across all competitions for the Gunners. During his time with the Premier League side, Marquinhos spent loan spells at several clubs including Fluminense, Norwich City, Nantes, and most recently Cruzeiro, who have now secured his services permanently.
In a statement released on Sunday, Arsenal said: "Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Marquinhos for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future."
Barcelona Parts Ways with Lenglet
In related transfer news, Barcelona have confirmed the termination of defender Clément Lenglet's contract. The Catalan giants announced the decision via their official website, bringing an end to the Frenchman's six-year stint at the club.
Lenglet joined Barcelona in 2018 from Sevilla and went on to make 160 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring seven goals and providing three assists during his time at Camp Nou.
The 29-year-old defender spent the last two seasons on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa respectively, indicating he was no longer in Barcelona's plans. The club has now made the separation official by terminating his contract.
Both moves represent significant shifts for the players involved, with Marquinhos seeking to establish himself in Brazilian football after failing to break through at Arsenal, while Lenglet now becomes a free agent with the opportunity to choose his next destination without transfer fee complications.
These transfers come amid a busy summer window as European clubs look to strengthen their squads ahead of the 2025/26 season.
