Manchester City have reached an agreement with Lyon to sign French midfielder Rayan Cherki in a deal worth £34 million, as the Premier League champions continue their summer recruitment drive ahead of the Club World Cup.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who recently made an impressive international debut for France by scoring in their 5-4 Nations League defeat to Spain, is expected to undergo a medical soon as City rush to complete the transfer in time for the upcoming Club World Cup registration deadline.

Cherki enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season with Lyon, netting 12 goals and providing an impressive 20 assists across 44 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit.

City's Transfer Market Activity Intensifies

The agreement for Cherki comes amid a flurry of transfer activity at the Etihad Stadium. City are also finalizing a £36.3 million move for Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rayan Ait Nouri, who has already completed his medical examinations.

Additionally, the club has struck a deal with AC Milan for Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, who underwent his medical on Sunday ahead of signing a five-year contract with the Manchester club.

City manager Pep Guardiola appears determined to strengthen his squad before their Club World Cup campaign begins against Moroccan side Wydad AC, with all three signings potentially available for selection if the transfers are completed in time.

The acquisition of Cherki would add further creativity and goal-scoring threat to City's already formidable attacking options, as they look to maintain their domestic dominance while pursuing success on the global stage.
