Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has opened up about his decision to distance himself from the Polish national team for as long as Michał Probierz remains the manager, citing disrespectful treatment regarding his removal as team captain.

The 36-year-old football star, who has captained Poland for eleven years and represented his country for seventeen, expressed his dismay at how the decision was communicated to him.

Unexpected Removal as Captain

In an interview with WP Sportowe Fakty, Lewandowski revealed he received an unexpected call from Probierz while putting his children to bed, informing him that his captaincy had been taken away without explanation.

"I wasn't expecting it at all; I was putting my children to bed," Lewandowski said. He further explained that before he could even tell his family what had happened, "a message appeared on the PZPN website. The way it was communicated to me is really surprising to me."

The Barcelona striker added, "It seemed to me that such matters should be handled differently. It really shouldn't be like this. The coach betrayed my trust. I'm very hurt by what happened."

Illustrious International Career

Lewandowski's decision marks a significant moment in Polish football. As one of Poland's greatest players, he has been a cornerstone of the national team for nearly two decades, wearing the captain's armband for more than a decade.

The striker continues to perform at the highest level for Barcelona in LaLiga, despite being in the latter stages of his career at 36 years old.

This development comes at a time when Poland is working to rebuild its national team program, having experienced mixed results in recent international competitions.

Neither the Polish Football Association nor coach Michał Probierz has issued an official response to Lewandowski's comments as of the time of reporting.
