The North West Youth Network has described the appointment of Yazeed Shehu Danfulani as Managing Director of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) as a critical turning point for young farmers who have been sidelined from national agricultural initiatives for years.
The group commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they termed a "bold step" toward empowering neglected rural youth and revitalizing hope across farming communities in the North West region.
Danfulani, an experienced agribusiness strategist and public finance expert, has assumed his role at NAIC, the federal agency responsible for agricultural insurance and risk management for farmers nationwide.
Renewed Confidence in Leadership
In a statement issued on Monday, the North West Youth Network noted that Danfulani's appointment has renewed confidence among young professionals in the region regarding President Tinubu's commitment to recognizing and empowering credible technocrats, regardless of age or political influence.
"We commend President Tinubu for this strategic and thoughtful appointment. Yazeed Shehu Danfulani is a proven leader, reliable, result-oriented, and reform-minded. His emergence sends a strong message that this administration is committed to driving economic growth through capable leadership," said Bashir Kawu, Coordinator of the North West Youth Network.
Kawu expressed optimism that Danfulani's leadership will reinvigorate NAIC and refocus its operations on providing tangible support for farmers, particularly in underserved rural areas. He described the president's decision as "a masterstroke," coming at a crucial time when Nigeria is striving for food security and broader economic stability.
Addressing Years of Exclusion
"For years, young farmers in the North West have been excluded from key agricultural initiatives. With Danfulani at the helm, we expect a meaningful shift, one that brings real protection and growth opportunities to rural farmers," Kawu added.
BenriNews reports that the group, expressing what it called a "vote of confidence" in President Tinubu's governance approach, also unveiled an ambitious grassroots mobilization campaign aimed at delivering no fewer than 20 million votes to the president in the 2027 elections.
"This is beyond appreciation, it's a call to action. Mobilisation has already commenced across the seven states of the North West. Our target is ambitious but achievable: to deliver 20 million votes for President Tinubu in 2027," Kawu declared.
The appointment comes at a time when agricultural reforms are increasingly seen as critical to Nigeria's economic diversification efforts and food security goals.
