The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ordered the immediate withdrawal of a petition filed against the Nigeria Police Force over an alleged attack on mining marshals and obstruction of efforts to prosecute illegal miners in Nasarawa State.

According to a statement by CSC Afolabi Babawale, National Public Relations Officer of NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja, Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi expressed displeasure over the petition, which was filed without management authorization by ACC Attah John Onoja, Commander of the Mining Marshal.

The NSCDC management has officially dissociated itself from the petition, which was submitted to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. The commander has been directed to withdraw the petition immediately to allow for an amicable resolution of the issues raised.

Maintaining Inter-Agency Harmony

The NSCDC emphasized the importance of preserving the "robust inter-agency relationship" between the two security organizations and the "harmonious working relationship" between the Inspector General of Police and the Commandant General.

"I have spoken to the IGP on the matter and sincerely apologise for the embarrassment that the petition might have caused," Dr. Audi stated in the release.

The statement highlighted that the office of the Inspector General of Police has been "very supportive" of NSCDC operations, encouraging collaboration between the police and other security services to enhance national security and support President Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda.

While the NSCDC management is considering appropriate measures regarding the officer who filed the unauthorized petition, the Commandant General reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration and synergy with the Nigeria Police to combat crime and improve security across the nation.

The original petition had alleged that police officers attacked and shot at NSCDC mining marshals and obstructed efforts to prosecute illegal miners arrested in Nasarawa State.
