France national team captain Kylian Mbappé has firmly rejected criticism that he experienced a 'blank season' at Real Madrid, despite his former club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) winning the UEFA Champions League without him.

Speaking ahead of France's UEFA Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday, Mbappé addressed the comparisons being drawn between his first season at the Santiago Bernabéu and PSG's European success.

"A blank season? Are you sure? What's an off-season? What's a blank season? Do you watch the games? We won two titles," Mbappé responded when questioned by journalists.

"That's the importance of words. We missed out on some important titles. It's been a rewarding year," he added.

The French superstar appeared unbothered by PSG's Champions League triumph following his departure, stating: "PSG won the UCL without me, that doesn't affect me. That's a good thing."

Individual Success Amid Team Challenges

Despite Real Madrid missing out on the Champions League and La Liga titles, Mbappé highlighted his personal achievements during his first season in Spain. The 26-year-old claimed the European Golden Boot for the first time in his career and also won the Pichichi trophy as La Liga's top scorer.

The two trophies Mbappé referenced in his defense were the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, which Real Madrid secured during the 2024-2025 season.

His comments come at a time when many football pundits have questioned his decision to leave PSG for Real Madrid, especially given the Parisian club's subsequent European success without their former talisman.

Mbappé's first season at Real Madrid has been a mix of individual brilliance and collective disappointments, with the Spanish giants failing to secure the major trophies they typically target despite the high-profile addition to their squad.
