Former Chelsea star Marcel Desailly has issued a warning to Arsenal supporters, claiming that defender William Saliba will eventually leave the Gunners for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
While Desailly believes Saliba will remain at Arsenal for the upcoming 2025/26 season, he suggests the French international's long-term future lies elsewhere.
Speaking to Oddspedia, Desailly explained: "One worry for Arsenal fans is that Saliba has had three and will probably have four seasons in the first-team. Will he want a change? We know that Arsenal are never number one."
"This season he will stay there. I don't see him going anywhere. But in the future I could see him at Real Madrid with a new lifestyle, Arsenal fans should worry," the former World Cup winner added.
Saliba, who joined Arsenal from French club Saint-Étienne in 2019, has developed into one of the Premier League's most accomplished defenders under Mikel Arteta's guidance. His commanding performances have been crucial to Arsenal's defensive solidity in recent seasons.
The 24-year-old defender has established himself as a cornerstone of Arsenal's backline, forming a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhães. His potential departure would represent a significant blow to Arteta's long-term project at the Emirates Stadium.
Real Madrid's interest in elite defenders is well-documented, with the Spanish club consistently recruiting world-class talent. Saliba's combination of physical presence, technical ability, and tactical intelligence makes him an ideal candidate for Los Blancos' defensive lineup.
For now, Arsenal fans can take comfort in Desailly's assessment that Saliba will remain in North London for at least another season, giving the club time to potentially secure his long-term commitment.
