Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group of Companies, has named the road leading to the Dangote Refinery after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The announcement came during the launch of the reconstruction of the Deep Sea Port Access Road in Lagos State on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, Africa's richest man expressed satisfaction with the improved functionality of fuel stations across the country, promising an end to the persistent fuel scarcity that has plagued Nigeria for years.
"The majority of fuel stations that were not working, they are now back to work; there is no more shortage, no more queues, and there will never be," Dangote declared.
Nigerian Fuel Prices Lower Than Regional Average
Addressing concerns about rising fuel costs in Nigeria, Dangote defended current petrol prices, suggesting they remain competitive compared to neighboring countries.
"Some people here in Nigeria might think that petrol at less than N900 is expensive, but there is nowhere in West Africa where petrol is not selling above $1, which is N1,600," he stated.
This assertion comes as petrol prices across Nigeria currently range between N800 and over N1,000 per liter, following the removal of fuel subsidies and subsequent market adjustments.
The Dangote Refinery, which recently commenced operations, is expected to play a significant role in stabilizing Nigeria's petroleum product supply and potentially influencing price dynamics in the domestic market.
The naming of the refinery access road after President Tinubu appears to be a gesture of appreciation, though specific reasons for the honor were not elaborated during the announcement.
The Deep Sea Port Access Road reconstruction project is anticipated to enhance logistics and transportation infrastructure supporting the refinery and other industrial operations in the area.
