Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, has attributed the establishment of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex to President Bola Tinubu's vision, describing the facility as "the President's brainchild."
Speaking during President Tinubu's visit to the complex in Lagos State on Thursday, Dangote highlighted that the Lekki Free Trade Zone, which houses the industrial complex, was established during Tinubu's tenure as Governor of Lagos State.
"I must emphasise that the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex is in many ways your brainchild. The Lekki Free Trade Zone, the site of this industrial complex, was established during your tenure as Governor of Lagos, and I think, Your Excellency, today, you are witnessing tangible fruits of that vision," Dangote stated.
Future Expansion Plans
Africa's richest man expressed optimism about future developments at the complex, stating: "I can tell you for a fact that what you have seen today is nothing. We have just started."
The occasion also saw Dangote commending the Tinubu administration's economic policies, particularly the Naira for Crude Policy, which he described as "one of the most transformative initiatives" and "a clear testament to the administration's commitment to economic recovery and national sovereignty."
Support for Local Production
Dangote also praised the recently introduced Nigeria First Policy, aimed at reducing dependence on foreign goods and services while prioritizing local patronage in investment decisions, business operations, and consumption habits.
The visit included the commissioning of concrete roads within the complex, which Dangote acknowledged were approved by President Tinubu.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex represents one of the largest industrial projects in Africa and is expected to significantly impact Nigeria's petroleum sector by reducing the country's dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
