Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed he rejected a lucrative transfer offer from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, despite the Middle Eastern side reportedly offering to triple his current £250,000-a-week wages.

The Saudi Pro League club was prepared to pay Manchester United £100 million for the Portuguese midfielder, but Fernandes opted to remain at Old Trafford after consultations with his family and new United manager Ruben Amorim.

Family Decision and Career Goals

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the 30-year-old midfielder acknowledged having discussions about a potential move to Saudi Arabia but explained his reasons for staying in Manchester.

"I spoke with Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk me out of it. I spoke to the club, who said they weren't willing to sell me, only if I wanted to leave," Fernandes said.

"I had to make the decision as a family and understand what I wanted for my future. That was the question my wife asked, what my professional goals would be," he added.

Career Ambitions Over Financial Gain

Despite the enormous financial package reportedly offered by Al Hilal, Fernandes indicated that he did not feel moving to Saudi Arabia was right for this stage of his career. The midfielder, who joined Manchester United in January 2020, has established himself as a key figure at the club and was appointed captain in July 2023.

Fernandes' decision to stay comes as a significant boost for new manager Ruben Amorim, who appears to have played a crucial role in convincing the Portuguese international to remain at Old Trafford despite the tempting offer from the Middle East.

The midfielder's commitment to Manchester United will likely be welcomed by fans as the club continues its rebuilding process under Amorim's leadership.
