Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has extended a late invitation to Krasnodar forward Olakunle Olusegun for Nigeria's upcoming international friendly against Russia.
Olusegun, a former Nigeria U-17 international, is scheduled to join the national team in Moscow on Tuesday morning, just days before the match. The 23-year-old striker has been in impressive form, having played a significant role in Krasnodar's successful 2024/25 campaign that saw them clinch the Russian Premier League title.
Since joining Krasnodar, Olusegun has netted 10 goals in 70 league appearances for the club, establishing himself as a regular starter for the Russian champions.
The Super Eagles contingent arrived in Moscow on Monday with 18 players currently in camp. Olusegun's addition will bolster the attacking options available to Coach Chelle, who has reportedly reshuffled his squad for the Russia clash.
This friendly comes after Nigeria's recent success in the Unity Cup, with the team looking to build on their positive momentum despite the absence of key players like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.
Russia's head coach Valery Karpin has already commented on the upcoming match, stating that the absence of stars like Osimhen and Lookman does not make the Super Eagles a weaker opponent, while Russian goalkeeper Agkatsev has expressed readiness to face what he described as a "strong team" in the Super Eagles.
The friendly match against Russia represents another opportunity for Coach Chelle to assess his squad and potentially integrate new talents like Olusegun into the national team setup as they continue their preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures.
