Former Manchester United midfielder Gordon Strachan has questioned the club's latest signing, Brazilian international Cunha, expressing doubts about how the attacker will fit into manager Ruben Amorim's tactical system.

Manchester United officially confirmed the signing of the 26-year-old from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, adding to Amorim's squad ahead of the new season.

Speaking to Esports Insider, Strachan acknowledged Cunha's talent but raised concerns about his role in Amorim's preferred formation: "He [Cunha] is a great player and very talented. But with his 3-4-3 formation, where will Ruben Amorim play him? That's the thing, Amorim's formation is a problem."

The former United midfielder elaborated on his concerns, questioning Cunha's potential position: "Will United play him where he plays now for Wolves? Will they stick him in midfield? Where does he fit into Amorim's formation? Will he be the one up top? I don't think so."

Amorim, who has implemented his distinctive 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford, faces the challenge of integrating Cunha into a team that finished the 2024/25 season without securing any silverware.

The Portuguese manager has previously indicated that Manchester United won't have a large squad next season, suggesting a more streamlined approach to his team selection and tactical setup.

Cunha's arrival comes amid speculation about the future of club captain Bruno Fernandes, with reports suggesting Amorim is determined to retain the Portuguese midfielder despite a reported £100 million offer from another club.

As Manchester United prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on how Amorim integrates his new Brazilian signing into a system that has already presented tactical challenges during his tenure at the club.
