Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has endorsed Manchester United's decision to retain Ruben Amorim as head coach despite the club enduring their worst-ever Premier League finish.

Under Amorim's leadership, United finished 15th in the Premier League during the 2024/25 season, marking their lowest position in the competition's history. The Red Devils also missed an opportunity to qualify for the Champions League after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

Despite mounting pressure and speculation about Amorim's future—including the manager himself suggesting he might step down—Manchester United appears committed to keeping the 40-year-old former Sporting Lisbon coach for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho, who led United to their last European trophy in 2017, said: "From what I read, the impact [of losing Europa League final] on Man United, of course, it is huge in the sense of how many years Man Utd is not involved in any European competition."

"But at the same time, it looks like they are supporting Ruben. They are giving him time and conditions to go forward," the Portuguese manager added.

The decision means Manchester United will be without European football next season, a significant blow for a club of their stature and commercial reach.

Amorim, who joined United after a successful spell at Sporting Lisbon, has faced significant challenges in his first season at Old Trafford. Despite the disappointing results, the club's hierarchy appears willing to give him more time to implement his vision and rebuild the squad.
