Malaysia's Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has publicly mocked Manchester United, suggesting the English football giants could face relegation next season following their disappointing performance in a preseason friendly match.

The Red Devils suffered a defeat against ASEAN All Stars at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, continuing their run of poor form that has characterized their recent campaigns.

Taking to Facebook after the match, Ibrahim wrote: "Oh no! Manchester United failed to win a trophy again. Looks like you guys are going to have a 'headache' next season. Hopefully you don't get relegated to the Championship."

The comments come after Manchester United endured a difficult 2024-25 season, finishing just above the Premier League relegation zone. Their struggles extended to Europe, where they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final, ending the season without silverware.

The preseason defeat in Malaysia, witnessed by 72,000 fans, has only intensified concerns about the team's prospects under new manager Ruben Amorim ahead of the upcoming season.

Manchester United's poor form has become a talking point even among world leaders, highlighting the global reach and significance of the club despite their recent struggles on the pitch.

The club will be looking to rebuild and improve their performance in the coming season to avoid the relegation scenario jokingly predicted by the Malaysian Prime Minister.
