The Labour Party (LP) has declared that it would have managed Nigeria's affairs more effectively than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has done over the past two years.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, claimed that LP had foreseen the current economic hardships facing Nigerians under the APC administration.

"We make bold to say a Labour Party government would have done a better job of managing the economy and improving the lives of Nigerians," Ifoh stated.

The LP spokesperson highlighted the deteriorating economic indicators, pointing to the significant devaluation of the naira and rising inflation as evidence of the APC's poor economic management.

"Today, the Naira, which exchanged for N167 to a US Dollar at some point, is now exchanging for over N1,600; petrol, which sold for N87 per litre, is now selling for over N1,000 per litre; and with nearly 40 per cent inflation, it has now reached over 42 per cent," he said.

Ifoh challenged Nigerians to reflect on whether their living conditions have improved in the last two years under the current administration. He posed rhetorical questions about the rising cost of staple foods, security concerns, and the declining purchasing power of citizens.

"How much is a bag of rice today when compared with what it was two years ago? Are we now more secure on our roads and at home? What about the purchasing power of our citizens? Is it better?" Ifoh questioned.

The statement comes amid growing criticism of the government's economic policies, which have seen Nigerians grappling with unprecedented inflation rates and cost of living challenges.

The Labour Party, which emerged as a significant opposition force in the last general elections, continues to position itself as an alternative to the ruling APC as the country navigates through economic difficulties.
