Chelsea legend John Terry has urged his former club to sign a proven Premier League striker, suggesting that current first-choice forward Nicolas Jackson lacks the clinical finishing required at the highest level.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the former England captain acknowledged Jackson's positive attributes while highlighting his concerns about the Senegalese striker's finishing ability.
"Playing against [Jackson] as a defender is a nightmare because [he] stretches defender and opens up that space [for his teammates] in the midfield," Terry said. "He's probably not been as clinical as we would like as Chelsea fans."
The Blues legend was clear about what he believes the club needs in the transfer market: "Chelsea need to bring in striker who is proven and has scored goals in the Premier League."
Jackson Under Scrutiny
Jackson, who joined Chelsea two years ago from Spanish side Villarreal, has faced significant criticism for his finishing despite his other contributions to Enzo Maresca's team. The Senegalese international's ability to create space and stretch defenses has been valuable, but his conversion rate in front of goal has left many Chelsea supporters frustrated.
Terry's comments come at a time when Chelsea appears to be gaining momentum under Maresca. The club recently lifted the UEFA Conference League trophy with a convincing 4-1 victory over Real Betis, suggesting the team is moving in a positive direction despite ongoing concerns about their striking options.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Terry's recommendation could influence Chelsea's recruitment strategy as they look to build on their recent European success and mount a more serious challenge in the Premier League next season.
