Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has announced he will soon make a decision regarding his international future, addressing speculation about his potential allegiance to either Nigeria or England.
The 27-year-old centre-back, born in England to Nigerian parents, has represented England 14 times at youth level between the U-16 and U-17 categories but remains eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level as he is yet to make his full international debut for England.
Speaking to reporters after Chelsea's UEFA Europa Conference League final victory over Real Betis, Adarabioyo denied previous reports that he had turned down opportunities to represent Nigeria.
"I never turned down Nigeria and I have never had a conversation that I will be going to Nigeria," Adarabioyo clarified. "At the point last season, where there was a bit of conversation, I said I wanted to focus on club football, I was at the last year at Fulham and now at Chelsea, in my first year, where I needed to concentrate."
The defender added: "Now is the time I need to make a decision (on international future)."
Adarabioyo joined Chelsea on a free transfer last summer after his contract with Fulham expired. Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, he has established himself as a key player for the Blues, culminating in their recent European success.
His potential addition to the Super Eagles would strengthen Nigeria's defensive options as the team continues to blend experienced players with emerging talents in international competitions.
The defender's comments come at a time when Nigeria's national team is competing in the Unity Cup 2025, where they recently defeated Ghana and are set to face Jamaica in the final.
