Military personnel and armoured vehicles have been deployed to strategic locations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second anniversary in office on May 29, 2025.

According to observations by DAILY POST, security forces were stationed at the popular Berger Bridge between Wuse Zone 6 and Jabi on Wednesday morning, signaling heightened security measures for the anniversary.

President Tinubu, who was inaugurated on May 29, 2023, marks this milestone amid persistent economic challenges facing many Nigerians. While his first anniversary was observed on a low-key basis, it remains unclear whether this year's celebrations will follow a similar pattern.

Economic Policies and Public Reaction

The Tinubu administration introduced two significant economic reforms during its first term – the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the Naira. These policies have resulted in spiraling inflation and increased costs of goods and services over the past 23 months.

Economists recently rated the administration low on improving the cost of living for most Nigerians. However, they noted some positive indicators in the foreign exchange market, the country's net external reserves, and revenue generation.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) acknowledged on Tuesday that Nigerians are still suffering but expressed optimism about the future. "People are still suffering. Yes, I agree to that, but it has started trickling in on the macroeconomic level, which is the upper level, not the lower. I am hoping that in the next two to three years the policy of Mr. President will trickle down and Nigerians will appreciate what Mr. President is doing," he stated.

The Senator further defended the President's economic reforms, saying, "I'm not a sycophant. Since 1960, this is the first president who stopped the subsidy and the first who merged the dollar. That's why we are suffering; Nigerians are not used to working hard. We are used to getting cheap money."

As President Tinubu marks his second year in office, 26 state governors, including those of Delta and Akwa Ibom States, will also be celebrating their second anniversary in their respective states.
