Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear he wants to keep captain Bruno Fernandes at the club amid reports of a £100 million offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Amorim emphasized Fernandes' importance to his plans for the club. "He's really important for us and really important for what we want to build with this team," the United manager stated.
The Portuguese midfielder's future at Old Trafford has come under scrutiny following Manchester United's dismal 2024/25 campaign, which saw them finish 15th in the Premier League and miss out on Champions League qualification after a season-ending 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite the team's poor performance, Fernandes was a standout performer throughout the season. This has reportedly attracted interest from Al Hilal, who are prepared to pay £100 million for the 30-year-old Portuguese international if he decides to leave Manchester United.
Amorim further praised Fernandes' leadership qualities, noting: "The last game the team was without pressure, they performed quite well, everybody wants the ball, the team has different moments and in different moments Bruno takes responsibility."
The manager's comments come after Fernandes made statements last week that fueled speculation about his future at the club. With Manchester United set to miss out on Champions League football next season, the midfielder's commitment to staying at Old Trafford has been questioned.
As Amorim prepares for his first full season in charge at Manchester United, retaining key players like Fernandes will be crucial to his plans to rebuild the team and improve on their disappointing 15th-place finish.
