Russia head coach Valery Karpin has announced his final 31-man squad for the upcoming international friendly against Nigeria's Super Eagles, reducing his initial provisional list of 41 players.

The Russian tactician has included only two foreign-based players in his selection: goalkeeper Matvey Safonov from French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and midfielder Anton Miranchuk who plies his trade with Swiss club Sion.

According to the Russian Football Federation, the team will begin preparations for the high-profile friendly match at their training base in Novogorsk on Saturday.

The international friendly is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 6, at the iconic Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, which previously hosted the 2018 FIFA World Cup final.

This match comes as both teams look to test their squads and tactical approaches in preparation for upcoming competitive fixtures. For the Super Eagles, this friendly represents an opportunity to face European opposition following their recent participation in the Unity Cup tournament in London.

The Nigerian national team, under their current technical setup, will be hoping to use this fixture to further assess player capabilities and tactical variations against a traditionally strong Russian side on their home turf.

Football enthusiasts from both nations are eagerly anticipating this rare matchup between the two countries, which could provide valuable insights into their respective team developments.
