Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yobe State have successfully intercepted 55 parcels of Colorado cannabis weighing 2kg during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Potiskum–Damaturu road.
According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the operation also led to the arrest of 22-year-old Adum Muhammed, who was allegedly attempting to smuggle the prohibited substances into the Republic of Chad through Ngamboru Ngala border town in Borno State.
The arrest is part of several operations conducted by the anti-narcotic agency within the week as part of its ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign across Nigeria.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), commended all commands across the country for maintaining a balance between drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
This latest seizure highlights the NDLEA's continued commitment to curbing drug trafficking, particularly in border states that serve as transit routes for narcotics destined for neighboring countries.
Colorado, a potent strain of cannabis known for its high THC content, has become increasingly prevalent in drug trafficking operations across Nigeria, prompting intensified surveillance by law enforcement agencies.
The NDLEA has not yet disclosed further details about the suspect's background or the ongoing investigation, but authorities have reiterated their commitment to prosecuting individuals involved in drug trafficking to the fullest extent of the law.
