Manchester United icon David Beckham has reacted to Nottingham Forest's decision to ban Gary Neville from commentary duties at the City Ground for their final Premier League match of the season against Chelsea on Sunday.
Neville, a former Manchester United defender turned Sky Sports pundit, was prohibited from entering the stadium to perform his co-commentary role for the broadcaster.
Responding to the ban on Instagram, Beckham suggested the decision might be connected to a historic match between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, stating: "Must of been something to do with that 7-1 game back in the day."
The reference points to a February 1999 encounter when Manchester United thrashed Nottingham Forest 7-1, with both Beckham and Neville featuring in that memorable match.
However, reports suggest Neville's ban is more likely related to his recent criticism of Forest's ownership following their 2-2 draw against Leicester City on May 11, rather than the decades-old match result.
Following the ban, Neville has acknowledged he has no choice but to stay away from the City Ground for Sunday's fixture, which marks the conclusion of the Premier League season.
The incident has attracted significant attention in football circles, highlighting the sometimes tense relationship between pundits and clubs when critical commentary is involved.
