Former Super Eagles attacker Peter Odemwingie has predicted that the upcoming friendly match between Russia and Nigeria will be a "great spectacle" despite revealing he will not be able to attend the game in person.

The international friendly is scheduled to take place on June 6 at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, bringing together two nations with which Odemwingie shares deep connections.

Speaking to Sport-Express, the 43-year-old former West Bromwich Albion forward explained his absence from the match: "I would love to watch this game live, but I am on a coaching course for the first two weeks of June."

Odemwingie, who was born to a Nigerian father and Russian mother, added that he hopes to visit Russia in August to watch several Russian Premier League games instead.

Despite being eligible to represent Russia through his maternal heritage, Odemwingie chose to play for Nigeria during his professional career, earning 65 caps for the Super Eagles. His international career included appearances in two FIFA World Cups and four Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments.

The former Lokomotiv Moscow player's connection to both nations adds a layer of personal significance to the upcoming friendly match, which will be closely watched by football fans in both countries.

The Russia-Nigeria friendly comes as both teams continue their preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures, providing an opportunity for coaches to assess their squads and tactical approaches in an international setting.
