Croatian football icon Luka Modric is reportedly set to join Inter Miami as a free agent after announcing his departure from Real Madrid, potentially reuniting with his former LaLiga rival Lionel Messi in the United States.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Modric will link up with the Argentine legend at the Major League Soccer (MLS) club following the end of his illustrious career with Los Blancos. The move comes after reports last month suggested that Messi had specifically requested Inter Miami to sign the Croatian midfielder.

Modric, who has already confirmed his decision to leave Real Madrid at the season's conclusion, would be joining the MLS side as a free agent. The two football legends previously faced each other numerous times in Spain's LaLiga when Messi played for Barcelona and Modric represented Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Messi's own future at Inter Miami remains somewhat uncertain. The Argentine superstar joined the Herons in the summer of 2023, but his current contract is set to expire this summer, with discussions around his continuation reportedly not progressing smoothly.

Inter Miami currently sits in sixth position in the Eastern Conference table with 22 points, trailing league leaders Philadelphia by seven points. The addition of Modric would bring significant experience and skill to the squad as they look to climb higher in the standings.

If confirmed, this move would represent another major coup for MLS, bringing together two of the most decorated footballers of their generation on American soil.
